Digital Photography I is an introductory course which gives students a good foundation of the basic tools and techniques of digital photography, as well as the development of conceptual and aesthetic issues in the field. Technical areas include camera use and care, metering, aperture, depth of field, shutter, shutter speed, exposure and optics. Students gain an understanding of the basics of image formation through the creation of pinhole cameras, and the developing of negative and positive prints in the darkroom. This leads to a more thorough investigation of camera parts and functions relating to digital cameras. A discussion and focus on composition will be used throughout the semester, giving students an opportunity to develop a better visual awareness of their surroundings. The course will integrate Photoshop CS5, which gives students an opportunity to professionally edit photos in a digital format.

Classroom Policies: Be respectful. Listen and don’t talk over others. Work in your assigned seat during class time. Do your best.
Attendance: “Absences will not arbitrarily result in reduction in grades, but failure to complete work will affect grades. Students and/or parent or guardian are responsible for requesting make-up work for each day's absence” Understand that there is often a direct correlation between showing up in class and being successful in class. Let’s make it a great semester by showing up and working hard!
Tardies: “Each teacher will maintain a record of student tardiness to class. Any unexcused tardiness will be reported by the teacher to the attendance office.” Similar to the attendance policy- make sure to show up on time and ready to learn!
Grading Scale - We are using the 4 point grading scale. This establishes a consistent grading system for all projects. Grading rubrics will be created to explain the specifics of each individual project.
A: 4 points B: 3 points C: 2 points D: 1 point
Relearning Opportunities:
Relearning opportunities are available throughout the semester. Work can be re-done for a better grade. In order to be successful, students should utilize the time available in class to ask questions and receive assistance from the teacher. Use Knight Time as needed- this is a great time to come in and use the darkroom or laptops with Photoshop.
